I must review back myself as a facebooker and my role in the social network. Seeing others doing all kinds of things and posting on borderless moral and thinking discipline basis sometimes just kinda make me vomit,and they are terribly annoying. Some posts are just mind twisting and they have no benefits at all for the sicked society of the world. They just make the society worse. Just a few years over since the introduction of facebook in Malaysia, the rate of suicide happening, divorce cases, gangsterisms, cyber bullies and such social problems increases at a speed of "light". Within 2 years, not less than 2 cases of youngster suicide and countless of divorce cases because of facebook related evidence had been reported and even on newspapers, they can been seen.
Well, maybe that happens too when there's no facebook around. But think about this, the action of the suiciding and divorcing had been amplified with the help of facebook, what would the vulnerable young mind think? It's worse now that even kids below the age of 13 are using facebook. Before they knew it, they had learned one bad habit, that is, cheating. It's known that facebook had set up an eligible age of using the service. But, do you think that kids will be that honest? That's too naive. In my account, I already have more than 10 kids who are less than 13 years old. Who will know if they go to add or receive people who they don't know and that person is holding a certain purpose such as cheating or child abusing?
It also should be known that the moral education in Malaysia is still in a very weak stage. Which even the adult's minds are easily affected and influenced especially for those who live in rural area. And I don't know how they were taught when they were in the school. The introduction of internet services with total freedom for every user in Malaysia is just not so right, considering the mind of most people is not mature enough to tell what is right from wrong. Although the services are not so cheap, but the government is now giving incentives to encourage people to access into the internet, which makes things worse. Now the the people's mind is getting more (I won't say it's complex, because they are dumb but with certain knowledge which is wrong from the internet) twisted and uncontrollable. They are motivated by deceiving information in the internet to do indecent things which lead to social problems, because of the absence of strong moral mind and the lack of knowledge.
Besides, some facebookers have posted videos with nudity and violence. I don't think they know the consequences the videos will bring to the human's (especially adolescence and teenager) mind. Well, some will say: "Awww....What era is now!? Don't be so conservative!" Well, I bet this person's mind is probably already poisoned. If the spreading of the so-called "open-minded" concept is not properly coordinated by mature adults or experienced psychologists, the information interpreted in the brain of the people regarded will probably be twisted. In worse case, they probably will commit crimes as there have no boundaries in they mind after experiencing such culture-shock. They are confused, but yet they are very confident that they aren't.
Worse thing is, some of the users (who are increasing in number lately) don't even realise what they don't know, that is they don't know what they don't know and do things which are worrying sometimes, such as spreading fake information. They believe it's true, but the truth is it's fake, and they never realise it and keep spreading, and more and more people are starting to believe it. Sigh... there's a proverb in Chinese:"Gossips stop in the mouths of the wise" . Question is, there are how many wise people out there using facebook? For the companies that just think about how much profit margin they will get, like they care about the morality, what they really want is money.Wake up! Facebooker! Please don't be deceived anymore.
There's another worrying situation, the parents of the young facebooker don't know how to use it. Then they gave up, without realizing how serious their kids were affected by the information in it. They will say: "Kids nowadays are very complex and we have no clue on what they are thinking." But then they allow their kids sitting at the computer facebooking without trying to understand what the kids are doing on it. Parents! You are too irresponsible! How could you say like that? You shouldn't say: "I'm too busy, no time." that's a really bad excuse. If you don't really have time, then don't give birth to your kids, so as to avoid creating social problems and giving no contributions to the countries and the earth. I am saying this seriously.
For older parents, the internet communication technology for them is like an alien knowledge and they just couldn't understand how it works. (Well, for the parents who are not very well educated). They keep blaming on their age for not able to store any more knowledge in their mind, this, in some degree, it can be accepted, but that doesn't mean you can just give up. Maybe you can still make a lot of money, ok, that's fine if you are happy with it. But please don't encourage other old people not to learn. Knowledge are precious, you don't want to learn, maybe you think that you're rich enough in terms of money and don't have the necessity to learn anymore. This is so wrong, do you ever feel the richness of being knowledgeable, despite getting the satisfaction of having a lot of money? If you are not knowledgeable enough, you won't get it. That's what you don't know what you don't know. Learning is a life-time process, it shouldn't be stopped even if you've graduated from Harvard, or you are already at the doorstep of the death. Our brain works like this (A student of neurology told me): When we don't use the knowledge or information in our mind often, and if it's very very seldomly used, the information will automatically be deleted from our brain. Sometimes, the human's memory is very surprisingly fragile, which means we tend to forget things untimely sometimes, no matter what age we are at.(Although we tend to forget things more often when we get old.)
I do not oppose the use of facebook, just emphasize things about the wrong way of using facebook. But I do oppose kids below 13 to use it. Maybe there are some little number of exceptionally intelligent and mature kids are encouraged to use, but not the ones who grew up in an not-well educated environment. I must admit facebook is a very good platform to promote things, your thoughts, sales of products, and almost everything. Because it will reach to your friends or "friends" almost immediately if they are also heavy facebook users. But the thing is, the extreme information whether it's good or bad are being spread. Well, there's a saying that there's nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so. Yes, our mind after experiencing centuries after centuries of human development, we did, generally have classified a lot of things as good or bad. Like, killing people is bad. But with the twisted information being spread at a speed that we cannot imagine, some weak human minds would somehow, at some point, starts to believe that killing people is nothing wrong! (well, this is just an example).
Facebook gives almost total freedom for the users to post anything. I urge facebook to set up certain obstacles so that kids below 13 won't be appearing in it. Probably set up a system that will require new user to provide identity card numbers or such things to make sure one person with eligible age can only have one account. I know facebook also want to earn money, also want to feed their workers and their family. But there are still so much people out there in the world, please don't harm their mind. In the case of kids below 13 who use facebook, should any people want to blame, blame their parents for not supervising their kids. Children are innocent.
